Getting The House Ready For Sale

The first impression of your home by a potential buyer is the most important one.

From that first (and often very brief) impression the buyer forms an opinion about your home ' whether to make further investigations or even whether to go inside.

It is important to have street appeal and for the house to look welcoming to your potential buyer.

Before putting your house on the market, invest some time improving its appearance.

Try to see your home through the eyes of a stranger. Even small defects will be noticed by the would-be buyer.

Small improvements to your home can make it more attractive to potential buyers

Your house should look well cared for.


  • Weed and tidy the gardens, consider planting colourful flowers
  • Trim untidy shrubs
  • Keep grass mown and edges trimmed
  • Clean and/or weed the drive and paths
  • Wash down house to remove any spider webs
  • Wash windows
  • Put tools away and tidy garage
  • Remove unnecessary clutter
  • Repair any flaking paintwork


  • Do a 'Spring Clean' in all rooms of the house
  • Remove unnecessary clutter ' put appliances away,
  • Remove and store away all non-essential belongings
  • Check the paint and plaster work and wallpaper for minor defect ' cracks and tears and have repaired
  • Fix minor repairs ' sticking doors, broken switches, creaky floorboards, dripping taps
  • Have carpets and other flooring cleaned
  • Clean and tidy cupboards
